2017 – In the Public Interest Award Recipients

The Taxpayers Association of Central Iowa presented the organization’s “In the Public Interest” Award to Jim Sanders, City of Johnston Administrator and Jonathan Lund, City of Des Moines Fire Marshal for their work on the Central Iowa Code Consortium Project.

The award is given to an individual, a local government or an intergovernmental project that demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to the public interest.

The Central Iowa Code Consortium Project is an intergovernmental initiative that makes it easier for businesses and individuals to comply with building codes throughout the metro area.  It is an outgrowth of the region’s Capital Crossroads initiative.

According to Bob O’Hollearn, Chair of the Taxpayers Association of Central Iowa Board of Directors, “These gentlemen, and many others who worked with them, have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and initiative, stretching far above and beyond their local job responsibilities for the good of the region.  They have notched up the area’s competitiveness as a place to do business while saving local governments in time and resources devoted to keeping building codes up to date.”

The award was presented at the Association’s 2017 Annual Meeting on February 15, 2017.
